So now that I have a child with a New Years Eve birthday the whole subject of birthday parties has come up. For LilFoo's first 3 birthdays we invited a ton of people to our house and packed them in like sardines. He got tons of presents which wasn't expected or needed but greatly appreciated. Now MiniFoo has just turned one and with her birthday coming right after a slew of holiday events it was very hard to get motivated to do a birthday party.
I started to think about it more and realized that I didn have a huge birthday party every year growing up and it didn't seem to phase me at all. I stared to talk to other people and found out that a lot of people don't do big parties every year for their kids birthdays. With LilFoo we did them because everyone else in our daycare did big parties, which wasn't bad, it was a way for all of us to get together and get to know each other. But now we are in a smaller daycare and parties are a big thing.
So now what I am thinking we will do with the kids is as they get older they can decide what they want to do for their birthday. They can choose to go somewhere and do something with mommy and daddy or when old enough have a sleep over or just have cake and ice cream.

I just realized that the email I sent you had nothing to do with your actual query. I am totally fine with not doing the birthday parties every year. And I advise you cut it off when they are younger because otherwise they start to expect it and there you are, shelling out $300 every year at Chuck E. Cheese. God save us all!
